How to Use ChatGPT to Help with Your PR, Content & Social Media
ChatGPT can be a valuable tool for doing your own PR by generating ideas, providing insights, and crafting basic messaging that can act as a starting point for your efforts. ChatGPT is not always accurate as the technology is still evolving. The key takeaway is that it's a starting point, not the end result, and the responses should always be cross-referenced and customized.
If you haven't started exploring how to utilize ChatGPT for your small business, we encourage you to try it out. Here are five ways you can utilize ChatGPT for your DIY PR efforts:
1.Draft a press release or pitch email
Press releases are typically used when making an announcement, such as a new collection or store launch, or a significant event or collaboration. They are not always the most fun to write, and can be very time consuming if copywriting is not your strength. ChatGPT can draft it for you. Simply put in the context for your press release, details about the announcement, and the overall message. We tested a made up prompt: “Can you write a press release on a collection of hand towels made in India?” And we were blown away! It would need finishing details but the bulk of the draft was done.
ChatGPT can also help you create a press release headline and provide insights into the most effective headline formats and styles for your target audience.
2.Craft a social media post
It is very easy to get into a content rut. Writer's block is real, especially when you are managing your own social media channels. This is a great opportunity to try ChatGPT. By providing it with details about your post, it can generate a persuasive, creative, and unique post.
For example, if you are creating a post announcing your new line of table napkins, you can tell the AI you would like to generate an Instagram post, then provide it with some details, such as linen napkins made by local artisans inspired by a trip to the South of France. The AI will then generate the post and relevant hashtags that will help drive traffic to your post! Prepare to be amazed.
3. Research media contacts
Research is so important for landing media coverage, but can take a lot of time. ChatGPT can assist you with research, but be prepared to cross check it. We tested out “Who should I email at Town & Country about a new fashion brand?” It gave us the contact information for T&C’s Editor in Chief. We were excited about this, but we wouldn’t usually email an Editor in Chief about a new fashion brand, we’d want to find a fashion news writer or market editor.
Try providing ChatGPT with context about your business, and it can even help you identify influencers, journalists, and bloggers who might be a fit for your business. Remember to double check the response first - this is a starting point, but it’s not always 100% accurate.
Once you have contact information, organize it into a Google doc or spreadsheet. If you haven’t already, you can download our Free Media List here.
4. Edit your blog post or newsletter
We all could use a second set of eyes when editing our own content. ChatGPT can assist with this. Simply ask it for help with editing and paste your copy into the chat. It will suggest better language and sentence structure. Are you amazed yet??
5. Create a social media calendar
If you want some fresh ideas for what to post over the next month, ask ChatGPT to create a social media calendar for you. Give it a specific prompt, such as “Can you create a social media calendar for a jewelry business specializing in permanent jewelry?” It will organize ideas for social media posts Monday-Friday for a month relevant to your business. Again, this is a starting point to generate ideas. It won’t be flawless or super customized, but will give you a template to start with, which will make planning much easier!
